A quality steering damper / stabilizer has become mandatory equipment on many of today's modern sportbikes. As horsepower levels rise and steering angles drop, front end stability can become a real safety concern. If you've never had the misfortune of experiencing a tank-slapper, trust us when we say it's no fun. And if you have... well... you already own a steering damper! Or darn well should!

Although some motorcycles are now coming with steering stabilizers as stock equipment, most of these units are severely lacking, both in terms of adjustability, and performance. They're generally better than nothing, but not by a large margin. On some bikes, they can be set up so stiff that turn-in is compromised and rider fatigue is aggravated. On others, they can be too soft to prevent the headshake they were meant to address.
