Would you enjoy
seeing exactly what your 'racebike in street clothing' is capable
of without fear of being hauled away in the back of a police
cruiser, or worse yet, hauled away in the back of an ambulance?
Do you wish to accelerate your learning curve as a rider without
concern for cars crossing into your lane around blind curves,
or patches of gravel lurking in asphalt shadows? Are you ready
to challenge your friends, as well as yourself, on a real racetrack,
surrounded by real racers and trackday vets who will gladly
help you in any way possible, for nothing more than the price
of a smile and a handshake? If you answered yes to any of these
questions, then the next trackday is where you want to be.
While trackdays are undoubtedly becoming increasing popular, there are still
plenty of riders that are unaware of their existence. So for
those of you who aren't yet in the know, let me clue you in...
for the cost of one night on the town, you can bring your very
own streetbike out to a real racetrack, ride pretty much all
day long at whatever pace you feel comfortable at, and enjoy
the camaraderie and tutelage you can only find at a track event.
No cars, no gravel, no cactus, and no cops... well, that's not
exactly true. There are cops, but only the ones that share your
passion for riding. Ever want to see if you could outrun a motor
officer without the risk of jail time? Hit the track and you
just might (just be forewarned... there are some mighty fast
officers out there!).
Speaking strictly to the local crowd, there are currently
two trackday organizations in the Phoenix metro area that host
trackdays - and ,
both of which generally hold an event once per month. Both of
these organizations utilize one of three tracks at Firebird
Raceway in Chandler, Arizona. And if you don't mind a short drive,
the , across the border in New Mexico,
also offers a very well structured program at prices that are
guaranteed to make your wallet happy.
While the Sportbike
Solutions Team wholeheartedly endorses and supports , which has provided both top-notch tracktime and
the highest-quality MSF instruction in the valley for years,
we feel that any trackday is better than none, so long as it's
organized in a safe and efficient manner. The links above will
guide you to each organization's respective website, where you
can learn more about their program, requirements, and schedule.
And don't worry about not being 'fast enough'... every program
listed breaks riders down into groups that correspond to their
comfort level.
Outside of Arizona, the story's pretty much the same... most states have one or more such organizations, with
plenty more popping up as the increased popularity in motorcycling soars. So no matter who you are, no matter where you live, and no matter what
level you're at -
There's a place for you at the track!
